BGMI unban in India: What you need to know

Sugam Deol

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is a popular battle royale game that was launched in India in June 2021 as a rebranded version of PUBG Mobile, which was banned by the Indian government in 2020 along with several other Chinese apps over security concerns. However, BGMI also faced a similar fate as it was banned again in July 2022 under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000 for alleged privacy and safety issues.

The ban came as a shock to millions of BGMI fans and players in India, who were enjoying the game on their Android and iOS devices. The game was also a source of income and entertainment for many content creators and esports professionals, who had to switch to other games or platforms after the ban. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and players were unable to access it on their devices.

Since then, there have been many rumors and speculations about the possible return of BGMI in India, but none of them have been confirmed by the game developer Krafton or the Indian government. However, some recent developments have given some hope to the BGMI community that the game might get unbanned soon with some changes and restrictions.

According to various media reports, Krafton has been in talks with the Indian government to resolve the issues that led to the ban of BGMI and to resume its services in the country. The company has reportedly made some changes to the game, such as limiting the playing time for users, changing the color of blood from red to blue or green, and ensuring that the game does not communicate with any servers located in China or other countries that pose a security threat to India.

Krafton has also released a statement in its financial report, stating that it is continuing its efforts to bring back BGMI to India and that it will continue investing in the Indian gaming market. The company's CEO CH Kim has also dropped a major hint that BGMI might get unbanned this year, saying that he is expecting great growth if the game returns.

However, there is no official confirmation or announcement from either Krafton or the Indian government about when and how BGMI will be unbanned in India. The final decision rests with the authorities, who have to consider various factors such as national security, public order, user privacy, and consumer rights before lifting the ban on BGMI.

Until then, BGMI fans and players have to wait patiently and hope for a positive outcome. BGMI is one of the most popular and successful games in India, with over 100 million downloads and a huge fan base. The game offers an immersive and thrilling experience of survival, strategy, and teamwork, along with various modes, maps, weapons, skins, and events. The game also has a vibrant esports scene, with many tournaments and leagues being organized by Krafton and other organizers.

BGMI is more than just a game for many people in India. It is a passion, a hobby, a career, and a community. The game has also contributed to the growth and development of the Indian gaming industry, creating jobs, opportunities, and revenue for many stakeholders. Therefore, many people are eagerly waiting for BGMI to make a comeback in India soon.
